Kappfull of Learning

As far as homeschooling goes, yesterday was pretty much perfect.  We started the day with singing primary songs, reading our scriptures, and piano practice.  Morning charts were done quickly and kindly and then the girls got their school work done so well, they were even helpful and kind to each other.  Then we spent the rest of our day outside riding bikes, basking in the sun and having a picnic.  My heart felt so light as I sat and thought, this is why, we are so lucky to be able to have this day.  All of our days are not so easy and some are downright difficult (today was one of those...) but even so, the highs that we can reach are so much higher now that I have my girls home with me. I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to keep them home, and for the learning and growth it provides to me as well.

As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints we have the privilege to gather together as a family every six months and listen to the words of our prophet, apostles and other leaders.  It's a great weekend, full of cinnamon rolls, words of the Lord, coloring, crocheting and more.  This time I taught Molly how to crochet, and it kept her busy the entire time, and  still now.  The other girls spent lots of time coloring, and Hadley played with blocks and climbed on dad.   As much as I love this weekend, it's the following days and weeks when I get to read over the words again, and really soak them in.  When I don't have kids asking for things, or yelling about a crayon, or banging blocks together.  The times when I can read and ponder all by myself.  I caught glimpses of what lies in store for me as I will read over and ponder the words that were spoken, and I can't wait to immerse myself in them.  The light splash I g...

For read aloud last week we read, "The Chocolate Touch," and my girls loved it.  It's an easy read and only took us a couple of days to get through it.  They loved seeing what would turn into chocolate next, and the message of the story was easy to follow and not over their heads.  It was entertaining, and uplifting, my five year old was especially interested in it.
