Working Hard

On Thursday each of the girls was kind of in their own space.  Emy spent much of her day coloring and drawing, but she has been picking up a bit of Nora's math lessons as well, because she really can count to ten now.  Before she would just make up numbers until she said 10 and then she stopped.  I was working with her everyday but it didn't seem to matter.  However just listening to Nora's math lessons seems to have been enough to teach her and that's been awesome to see.

Nora decided she wanted to do some of her work out on the couch so she could be more comfortable and not be in the "noisy" school room. I love the flexibility that we have in home educating to find things that work for them.  I'm still working on fully embracing that mentality because I like things more rigid in my own life, but I know that my kids are not me and they need different things at different times.

Molly was a champ with her work on Thursday and got done pretty quickly. I love sitting with her and knowing exactly what she is working on and how she is doing so that if needed we can incorporate things into others parts of our day as well. When she was in public school I didn't really feel like I had a real grasp on what she was learning.

Hadley is feeling much better now that she is on antibiotics (again...) for her ear infection.  I'm hoping she won't need to have tubes put in, but who knows.  Since she hasn't had to be held all the time this week, she has been enjoying drawing and erasing on the chalkboard.

Jesus Walking on the Water

Originally for gospel study I was printing coloring pages for them to color on, but I'm really loving just watching what they come up with.  It's so much more fun, and they get really into their drawings. Nora was upset about the black "narwhal" on her picture, because little sister Emy added that feature, and it was not appreciated.

Baby Time

I've mentioned before that this one is a very messy eater and so she usually gets a spray down in the sink in the morning which she absolutely loves. Then we get her dressed and have some reading time before school.  This morning she wasn't interested in sharing her chair...

Sophie Mouse

My girls LOVE the Sophie Mouse books, and to be honest so do I.  They are cute stories that build good character.  There is no questionable material in them, they are just good books! They are an early reader chapter book, so they have some illustrations, and the stories are fun and easy to follow.  Molly my 7 year old read them all last year. This year I read them aloud to Nora my 5 year old before bed, and she will probably read them on her own sometime next year.  She is still frustrated pretty easily by reading even though she can do it, so we keep things pretty short in that area for now.  If you haven't read the adventures of Sophie Mouse and you have little girls at home (or even little boys!) I highly recommend them!
