Week 1

The chalkboard wasn't big enough, so I'm making it bigger.  We are learning about dinosaurs and following the good and beautiful curriculum.  I'm in love.  I want to go back to school and relearn everything from this curriculum.  It is so beautiful and uplifting.  It brings God into our discussions so easily and naturally.  We are also studying dinosaurs as we are going to visit some dinosaur sights over the next two months. The baby is a lot of work, she makes big messes while we learn, but she is learning too and she want's so badly to be big like her sisters. She gets very angry when she just can't do what they are doing.  We also celebrated valentines day and wrote valentines to our Savior Jesus Christ.  We made donuts and heart pizzas and played games together as a family. We made binoculars and went for a nature walk in the freezing cold. It was great, until they were all a little too cold... There's a lot going on and while I was afraid that if I spent so much time with my children I would become more impatient with them and feel spent, the opposite is USUALLY true.  I love that we are spending time together doing something that is engaging to both them and I.  And I find that I actually have plenty of time to myself as we have developed our schedule.  We start the morning with gospel study, then do piano and reading, chores and then start "school" around 10:00.  We usually finish up around 12:00 sometimes 1:00 if we really get into something.

Jesus Walking on the Water

Originally for gospel study I was printing coloring pages for them to color on, but I'm really loving just watching what they come up with.  It's so much more fun, and they get really into their drawings. Nora was upset about the black "narwhal" on her picture, because little sister Emy added that feature, and it was not appreciated.

Baby Time

I've mentioned before that this one is a very messy eater and so she usually gets a spray down in the sink in the morning which she absolutely loves. Then we get her dressed and have some reading time before school.  This morning she wasn't interested in sharing her chair...

Sophie Mouse

My girls LOVE the Sophie Mouse books, and to be honest so do I.  They are cute stories that build good character.  There is no questionable material in them, they are just good books! They are an early reader chapter book, so they have some illustrations, and the stories are fun and easy to follow.  Molly my 7 year old read them all last year. This year I read them aloud to Nora my 5 year old before bed, and she will probably read them on her own sometime next year.  She is still frustrated pretty easily by reading even though she can do it, so we keep things pretty short in that area for now.  If you haven't read the adventures of Sophie Mouse and you have little girls at home (or even little boys!) I highly recommend them!
