Molly and I have been readying Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan at night before bed. Molly used 100 coins to buy this book, and I'm so glad she did it has been wonderful. I have loved watching my daughter learn as Esperanza went from riches to rags almost overnight and lost much of what was important to her. We've talked a lot about the importance of people, and how things don't really matter as much. It's also been a great discussion starter on choosing to be happy even when it doesn't appear that you have much to be happy about. The story glides along smoothly and I found myself just as eager to read another chapter as she was!
Originally for gospel study I was printing coloring pages for them to color on, but I'm really loving just watching what they come up with. It's so much more fun, and they get really into their drawings. Nora was upset about the black "narwhal" on her picture, because little sister Emy added that feature, and it was not appreciated.
